For environmental protection, McDonald's launched "paper straw"

Key words: Zhejiang straw | paper straw | environmental protection paper straw | degradable straw | PLA straw | beverage straw | art straw manufacturer | Yiwu Monte daily necessities Co., Ltd

Now, it is almost inevitable to remove plastic straws from our daily habits. Because the waste caused by plastic straw is immeasurable. In the United States alone, 500 million straws are lost every day. According to one less straw, these straws can circle the earth two and a half times when connected.

People began to act. They told the restaurant waiter to stop providing straws. Starting this summer, Seattle will ban all businesses from selling food and beverages with plastics, and straws are no exception; California also has a bill in the pipeline that requires restaurants to provide straws only when customers voluntarily request them; Scotland plans to completely eliminate plastic straws by the end of 2019.

McDonald's also responded positively to the call. In more than 1300 stores across the UK, McDonald's has replaced plastic straws with biodegradable paper straws, and will only provide straws when guests ask for them. This can also be regarded as a test to see people's attitude towards paper straw. Once McDonald's is successful in the UK, it will be promoted all over the world.

Harm of plastic straw

Although the straw can be recycled, there is very little really recycled. We usually throw straws by the side of the road, and then they will be sent to the landfill for treatment. And they pose the greatest threat to the ocean. Although they are not the biggest source of pollution in our waterways, some fish and birds are affected. The straw is small, so marine life is easy to swallow. Plastic objects like straws and forks can even get stuck in the turtle's nose.

According to strawless ocean, we found plastic in the stomachs of 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles. These are made by humans, and we could have avoided them - when these animals eat plastic, their mortality rate reaches 50%.

Substitutes for plastic straws

Although McDonald's uses a paper straw instead, it's not the only option, but it's a better way than throwing away the plastic straw. If you still can't give up the straw, you can choose a non disposable straw or make a plan for yourself. Bamboo, glass and metal are also used to make reusable straws. You can take it with you or even put it in the glove box of the car. When you want to use a straw, just take it out at any time.
